Mike has always been interested in housing, construction and the basic human need for shelter. He set this personal interest aside to pursue a "practical" career in hi-tech marketing (IBM, AT&T, HP & a "dot com" startup) after earning an MBA from Brigham Young University in 1993. After Mike's father was killed in a tragic car accident in August 2000, he returned home to Corvallis (CHS class of '83) where he once again pursued his passion for housing by becoming a general contractor and starting Chateau Construction.
Mike is currently serving as the Corvallis Stake Communication Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Previously he served as a missionary in France and as a bishop of The Corvallis First Ward where he cared deeply for the well-being of each member of his congregation. Mike and Laurie co-founded and led The Willamette Valley Down Syndrome Association in 1998.
Serving others with a desire to improve their well-being is engrained in Mike's DNA. These volunteer and professional experiences combined with his business education and entrepreneurial energy have prepared Mike well to help those without a home in our community. Now retired from construction, Mike is pleased to serve arm in arm with so many talented, altruistic and committed volunteers at Unity Shelter and throughout our community.
Mike and Laurie live in Corvallis. They have 4 children and 4 grandchildren whom they cherish.
